In the lyrics--penned during the pandemic's most intense months--there is a palpable sense of urgency and desperation: urgency to return to pre-pandemic normalcy as the world shut down and erupted into civil violence, and desperation for genuine human contact and validation. A pervasive feeling of disarray prevailed, with the world appearing utterly chaotic. This song became our contribution to restoring normalcy, a means of transforming the pandemic-induced loneliness into something redemptive, illuminating, and perhaps even a bit catchy on a playlist. Ideally, this song instills in the listener an audacity to pursue your goals and aspirations despite the tumultuous nature of the world, which can at times seem like it's brimming with reasons to doubt yourself. Our message here: keep doing yourself, keep following what you love because in the end, that's all that matters, that you were true to yourself.
lyrics
Buy Your Way Back
I’m just tired of it taking so long.
I don’t wanna be distressed.
I don’t wanna hear the man to my left,
I know just what he said, I guess.
I’m just tired of them treating you wrong.
I see those creases in your face,
That get formed in the night while you sleep,
“Too many demons to defeat,” she said.
Meandering and pandering to the ones
Who were always the fools like,
Ahhh —
Is it too much to ask to hurry along?
Ask your trusty throwing wrench,
If things have gotten too tense,
While we’re climbing over fences,
And, she says to me.
I know how it feels to be lonely just to,
Buy your way back, yeah.
You buy your way back, now.
Post-Chorus:
Well, you keep to yourself,
What the almighty said.
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Well, you buy your way back.
You buy your way back, yeah.
You’ve got to liberate the details upon,
Further investigation,
Don’t leave it open for interpretation,
Like a bad allegation now.
Upon the altar of eternal sands,
Where they hatch infernal plans,
That don’t seem to be shedding the right kind of light,
On the sights they’ll run you through with.
Seeking out the heat of the fight,
Just to pull it a little bit closer to you,
Closer to you,
Well, closer to you now.
I know how it feels to be lonely,
Just to buy your way back.
You buy your way back, now.
I know how it feels to be lonely,
Just to buy your way back, yeah.
You buy your way back, yeah.
I know how it feels to be only,
When you’ve broken your back,
Stuck your fingers in the latch.
Well, you keep to yourself,
What the almighty said.
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Oooh,
Well, you buy your way back.
You buy your way back.
Yeah, you buy your way back!
